Rosario + Vampire

Anime Review
Rosario + Vampire

Plot

Tsukune Aono is a normal high school freshman who is unable to get into any private school, due to his dismal grades. The only school he is finally accepted into turns out to be a secret school for supernatural monsters and mythical creatures (yōkai), who are disguised as humans. He quickly becomes friends with the beautiful Moka Akashiya, who turns out to be a vampire attracted to the sweet taste of his blood (and Tsukune's only, it turns out). While at first Moka was upset upon discovering that Tsukune was actually a human, she realizes that he's the first real friend she had ever made. Tsukune quickly realizes his admission into a monster school must have been a mistake and fears for his life.
Despite Moka's vampiric nature, she is a kind girl and Tsukune quickly falls for her. Moka also quickly falls in love with Tsukune after they meet. He decides to stay and be near her, despite the various dangers. He must hide his human identity from the faculty and other students, while trying to keep his grades up and avoiding conflicts with the various not-so-mythological monsters lurking around campus. Tsukune soon discovers that when he removes the "rosario" around Moka's neck, she transforms into a super-vampire, stronger and more powerful than almost any other creature at the school. However, in this state, she has an entirely different, often cold and merciless personality, so the rosario is only removed in dire emergencies. Tsukune is the only person who can physically remove it to transform Moka, and only in the case of an emergency (the rosario remains physically bound to Moka, while Tsukune attempts to willfully remove it in a moment immediately preceding, and sometimes interjecting - a malignant situation).
As the school year continues, Tsukune becomes involved with other students who start out as enemies but who are won over into becoming his friends: Kurumu Kurono, a succubus who originally fixated on Tsukune as both a means of propagating her species and a weapon against Moka (whom she originally hated for attracting all the male students away from her); Yukari Sendo, an eleven-year-old witch who is the smartest student at the academy (but prejudiced against by the other students since witches are not truly considered monsters, but somewhere between monsters and humans) who developed a major crush on Moka, and a softer crush on Tsukune after they defended her against a pack of bullies. Ginei Morioka, a second-year student who is not only the President of the school Newspaper Club but also a werewolf and a pervert who can't understand why Moka is attracted to Tsukune and not to him; and Mizore Shirayuki, a yuki-onna who began by stalking Tsukune believing them to be soulmates. However, after Tsukune befriends each of the girls, they become friendly rivals along with Moka for Tsukune's affections and members of the school Newspaper Club with Tsukune and stand by him even after they learn that he is really a human. As time goes on, they discover dangerous organizations like Antithesis and Fairy Tale and must do battle against them to keep the school and even both the monster and human worlds safe, and Tsukune starts to undergo changes that truly solidify his role as the link between the human and monster worlds.
(anime)Season 1:
After failing his high school entrance examinations, normal schoolboy Aono Tsukune happens to be accepted into Yokai Gakuen. It is a school to which monsters go, and it has this rule: if a human being should find out about the school, he must be killed. The situation frightens Tsukune, but he is encouraged by Akashiya Moka, a vampire of great beauty who takes a liking to him, and he resolves to stay at the school. Other beautiful and unique girls then appear one after another, causing no end of trouble for Tsukune. How will his school life turn out?

(anime)Season 2:
A new semester has arrived for Tsukune and the gang featuring a handfull of girl obsessed female first years and it seems like among these first years emerges another vampire who holds a grudge against her sister Moka. What shall this grudge lead to in the future and shall Tsukune suceed in taming this new problem child into his friend, no one knows what the future holds.
The new season is set to continue to follow the manga, introduce new characters from the manga and characters created strictly for the anime.

Characters:

Main Characters
Tsukune Aono (青野 月音 Aono Tsukune?)
Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio
The male protagonist of the series, Tsukune Aono is mistakenly enrolled in an academy for monsters. He soon meets Moka Akashiya, a vampire who takes an interest in him, due to the sweet taste of his blood (an ongoing gag that occurs throughout the series with her catching Tsukune off-guard and biting him on the neck). Fearful for his life and ready to leave the school, it is only his affection for Moka that gets him to continue attending Yōkai Academy. Though he has no special powers of his own, he constantly risks his life to protect his friends. Later on, he acquires vampiric abilities, then ghoul-based powers (the latter of which puts his humanity in jeopardy), allowing him to fight toe-to-toe with almost any supernatural foe.
Though ordinary and often cowardly in the beginning, Tsukune's willingness to protect his friends without thinking twice about it earns him many new companions and the affection of the girls surrounding him. He is both gentle and understanding, and displays great courage when his friends are threatened. And, later in the series, Aono is infused with Moka's blood and starts to go under changes, such as gaining vampire fighting skills when him or one of his friends is threatened. At first, Moka feels responsible for this, but Aono says that he doesn't blame her for his transformation. And, after he and Moka's colder personality defeat a monstrel, she tells what is going to happen to him.
Moka Akashiya (赤夜 萌香 Akashiya Moka?)
Voiced by: Nana Mizuki
Moka Akashiya is the first person Tsukune meets when he sets foot in the yōkai realm. Exceptionally sweet and kind, Moka is a vampire, and takes a liking to Tsukune, after ingesting his blood, and becomes addicted in doing so. When the rosario around her neck is removed, the seal keeping her true nature is released. Cold and arrogant, the inner Moka is a completely different entity from the kind, loving Moka, going so far as to specifically remind Tsukune to "be kind to the other Moka". Tsukune is the only one able to remove the rosario around Moka's neck.
Revealed in an omake, she loves tomato juice, but prefers Tsukune's blood. Her name is perhaps a pun on the word "mocha, as well as reflecting her split personalities, as mocha is a combination of coffee (representing inner Moka) and cocoa, (representing outer Moka)" (モカ).

Newspaper Club

Kurumu Kurono (黑乃 胡夢 Kurono Kurumu?)
Voiced by: Misato Fukuen
Kurumu Kurono is a succubus and is initially jealous of Moka's popularity overshadowing her own, though she eventually considers Moka a friend. She tries to seduce Tsukune and the male student body, using her charming techniques (through her succubi abilities, including her busty physique), making them her slaves. This is so she can find her "mate of fate", in order to save her diminishing species, with the (mistaken) assumption that Moka is blocking her path. After a pitched battle between Kurumu and the unsealed Moka ends with Kurumu being badly beaten, Tsukune persuades the unsealed Moka to spare her. As a result, Kurumu not only becomes friends with the pair, she also becomes infatuated with Tsukune and makes a decision that he will be her "mate of fate". Described as a tough character, Kurumu sports a pair of bat wings, tail and razor-sharp nails in her true form, and has notable body strength (seen when carrying people during flight). The use of illusions and reality-bending techniques make up for her lack of combat abilities. Kurumu also carries a unique, innate sense of knowing when danger might occur. As of the second manga serialization, she is learning basic witchcraft.
In an omake, Kurumu reveals she has a serious weakness for sweets, to the extent that she once ate poisoned cookies she made and planned to give to Moka. Kurumu's mother is Ageha Kurono, who appears during the start of the school festival under the belief that Tsukune is her daughter's fiancé.
Yukari Sendo (仙童 紫 Sendō Yukari?)
Voiced by: Kimiko Koyama
Yukari Sendo is one of the smartest students at Yōkai Academy, and the youngest at age 11. She is a witch, and always wears a typical witch costume (consisting of a hat and cape), which is considered by some students to be a violation of the school rules. As a witch, she has problems with her classmates discriminating against her (in the series, witches are viewed as "border beings", those that are something between humans and the supernatural, as it is impossible to tell their difference by appearance alone). Despite ranking #1 on the examinations, she was a lonely prankster before meeting Tsukune and Moka. She initially hates Tsukune, claims that she has fallen in love with Moka, and uses her magical powers to try to drive them apart. However, after both Tsukune and Moka save her from bullying classmates, she falls for him too. Her obsession with both has driven her to try to create a three-way relationship between them. Yukari has, on occasion, developed some bizarre items, often leading to hilarious results or farfetched situations. Items she developed includes the Suku Suku Drops.
Yukari's parents, both highly skilled and adept in magic, appear during the start of the school festival seen in the anime adaptation, when they repair the torn-up academy.
Mizore Shirayuki (白雪 みぞれ Shirayuki Mizore?)
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya
Mizore Shirayuki is a yuki onna. Keeping in line with Japanese mythological creatures, she has the ability to control the element of ice at will, and can form clones composed of said element. Frequently seen with a lollipop in her mouth (yuki onna are vulnerable to warm climates; doing so keeps their bodies cool and let them melt ), Mizore returns to school after a delayed absence and shows an immediate interest in Tsukune. In truth, she becomes infatuated with him, going so far as to create her own journal/scrapbook with all of his newspaper articles. In the past, she confessed her love to a teacher until he began taking advantage of her, with the result that she froze him. With the incident and rumors spreading about her, Mizore made it hard for herself to trust anyone, but took a liking to Tsukune, believing he was just as miserable as she was. She eventually regains her sense of trust after Tsukune intervenes when the same teacher returns to kill her. Unfortunately, this leads Mizore to stalk Tsukune on a daily basis.
A running gag in the series is that Mizore always appears unexpectedly in the oddest locations (under tables, behind doors, the ceiling, bushes, even in the bathroom), and throws ice-based projectiles to disrupt any sort of tender moment Tsukune is having with any other girl. Mizore's mother is Tsurara Shirayuki, who appears during the start of the school festival under the belief that Tsukune is her daughter's boyfriend, while her unnamed father appears in the second anime adaptation.
Ginei Morioka (森丘 銀影 Morioka Gin'ei?)
Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki
The president of the newspaper club, Ginei Morioka is a werewolf. Commonly referred to as "Gin", a shameless peeping tom began as an antagonist to Tsukune, but becomes somewhat of a senior to him and his friends. Though he ceases his schemes (so other students will stop calling him a pervert), his affections lie with Moka. It should be noted he has no second thoughts about trying to impress other girls. While working in the club, he tends to leave all the work to his subordinates, including the distribution of the paper. Ginei has proven himself a loyal friend and has provided the group with helpful information, often acting as the comic relief.
As a werewolf, when a full moon shines brightly, his abilities are heightened to a point where his speed exceeds Moka in her super-vampire state. While werewolves in general are stated to have their power wax and wane with the lunar cycle, it is unknown if all werewolves receive this much of an increase. Regardless, Ginei is still exceptionally fast, even when the moon is not full.
In the second manga serialization, it is revealed he was Kurumu and Mizore's sparing instructor.
Ruby Toujou (橙条 瑠妃 Tōjō Rubi?)
Voiced by: Saeko Chiba
A witch from the human world, Ruby Toujou was part of a plot to destroy mankind as a response to a large garbage dump polluting her mistress' sanctuary. Her hate for humans stems from a car accident caused by a human drunk driver that took her parents' lives while the family was vacationing in the human world. Upon remembering the kind of love her parents had given her, she attempts to persuade her mistress to call off her plan, but to no avail, as her mistress was bent on destroying the human world. She disappears after her mistress is defeated and put to rest. Ruby reappears when Tsukune becomes out of control as a ghoul, and helps the exorcist in sealing his abilities. She now resides at Yōkai Academy, as the board chairman's aide and continues to work for him in the second manga serialization. Despite not being an official student, she receives permission to become a member of the newspaper club. Exclusively in the anime, a running gag involves her randomly switching positions to help the school. When asked why, she states "many many things" have happened, though it is believed these are orders from the chairman as a debt of gratitude for providing her with a new magic wand.
In an omake, the reason Ruby works under the board chairman is her infatuation with Tsukune, and by working at the academy, she could be near him. The anime omits the presence of her master or the inclusion of her parents, drastically changing the events surrounding her, including the reasons behind her return. Much of Ruby's magic revolves around a motif of ravens and flora, both as familiars and alternate forms for her to take. Apparently, Ruby has shown that she is a masochist and the biggest pervert of them all during a training exercise for Tsukune to control his youkai power.
Kokoa Shuzen (朱染 心愛 Shuzen Kokoa?)
Voiced by: Chiwa Saitō
Introduced in the second manga serialization and anime adaptation, Kokoa Shuzen is the younger half-sister of Moka Akashiya. Bearing a similar appearance to Moka, except for her orange hair and cyan eyes, she arrives as a first-year student to Yōkai Academy. Like her sister, Kokoa is also a vampire, but her powers are not sealed and does not carry the same supernatural strength Moka possesses. To compensate, she has a pet bat, Kou (Nazo Koumori in the anime), that can transform into a variety of weapons and wields it with enough strength to make herself formidable.
Kokoa despises Moka for sealing away her inner personality, whom she adores and loves. Before Moka left to study at the academy and prior to her receiving the rosario, the sisters often clashed with one another, although Kokoa could never defeat Moka in a duel. She constantly attacks Moka, in hopes of drawing out the "inner Moka" and feels slightly angry that Tsukune has the ability to unlock Moka's true nature and begrudgingly accepts the presence of her sealed sister. Unlike Moka, Kokoa harbors a deep-seated fear of their older sister Kahlua Shuzen: known as the kindest amongst their family, Kahlua continuously babies Kokoa and has a "smile of an angel", something Kokoa is frightened of.
As a parallel to her sisters, Kokoa's name may be an intended pun on the word "cocoa" (ココア).
Others Related to Newspaper club:

Otonashi Sun
Also known as Sun-sempai she's a graduate of the school and the former Newspaper Club leader. She rarely speaks and carries around a sketch book to write on instead of talking. She is a Siren who has a perfect song of protection.
Miyamoto Haji
Captain of the Youkai Academy Karate club, he's skilled in it. He and Gin have fought together in the past and he is currently fighting against Fairy Tale. He also has a Technique called "Empty Fist thrust", similar to a Touate attack.

Faculty

Shizuka Nekonome (猫目 静 Nekonome Shizuka?)
Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue
One of the many school teachers at Yōkai Academy, Shizuka Nekonome is Tsukune and Moka's homeroom teacher and also the advisor for the Newspaper Club. A neko-musume (cat lady), she is rather carefree in her attitude and somewhat oblivious to certain things. The manga reveals she likes to eat raw fish, but specifically, as shown in the omake, goldfish. Her animated counterpart does not seem to show any hatred towards humans, unlike the rest of the teachers in the school. This is particularly shown prior to Tsukune's execution incident, when Shizuka worries about his fate and argues how the school was built to promote human relationships with yōkai and vice versa. She is also said to own a villa in the human world.
Kagome Ririko (籠女 李々子 Ririko Kagome?)
Voiced by: Aya Hisakawa
Kagome Ririko is a teacher at Yōkai Academy, specializing in mathematics. Seemingly innocent and deeply concerned for her students' grades, she offers private lessons to anyone willing, though at a price. In the dark recesses of her chambers, she becomes a lamia, with the head and torso of a beautiful woman, but the body of a serpent, and uses her abilities to drain students' emotions in exchange for knowledge; she does this through a flower-like appendage on her tail. She also seems to have a fetish for S&M outfits. Ms. Ririko is only lascivious to males; any girls that need lessons are made to dress up in maid outfits and serve her tea. It is important to note that unlike other antagonists, she is not inherently evil, but rather very passionate about the education of the academy's students, as well as the status between teachers and students.
In the manga, Ms. Ririko tries to enslave Tsukune when he is forced to have tutoring by her in order to correct his failing grades in math, and when Moka attempts to rescue him Tsukune snaps out of Ms. Ririko's control long enough to remove Moka's rosario. Naturally, Inner Moka is easily able to defeat Ms. Ririko. She reappears later (apparently not holding a grudge) to warn Tsukune and Moka about Okuto Kotsubo.
Hitomi Ishigami (石神 ひとみ Ishigami Hitomi?)
Ishigami is the art teacher at Yōkai Academy, and is a legendary gorgon, with her braided hair standing in for the snakes of a gorgon. Her bite can instantly turn its victim into stone, but she lacks to ability to turn people into stone with a gaze. Ishigami has a desire to turn any attractive female student into stone to add her to Ishigami's collection of living art, but is stopped by Tsukune and Moka, resulting in her immediate sacking from the faculty. Ishigami returns, secretly informing the Student Police Committee of Tsukune's human nature, but immediately leaves the scene when the head of the Student Police is soundly defeated.
In the final chapters of Series I, Ishigami reveals it was she who gave Kyouko, Tsukune's cousin, the Lilith Mirror, with the intention of stealing his soul and the added bonus of releasing all the students into their monster state through the powers of the artifact in order to create an uproar that will destroy the school. She states how death and destruction is the purest form of art. Ishigami is defeated a second time and arrested.
Mikogami Board Chairman (Exorcist)
Voiced by: Masaharu Satou
A mysterious exorcist, who has a connection to the bus driver, he is always seen hooded beneath his garments and possesses extremely strong, anti-demonic powers, having the ability to seal Tsukune's ghoul nature. He has the same strange eyes as the bus driver.
The chairman is, in fact, one of the three Dark Lords or Hell-Kings, the creators of Yōkai Academy, and the ones who placed a barrier separating the human world from the supernatural world. Carries Rosary of Judgement used to make barriers He is also aware Tsukune is human, but allows him to stay at the academy in exchange for performing favors and tasks, including rooting out members of ANTI-THESIS. He seems to also be immortal, having been severely wounded (impaled in the back by the leader of ANTI-THESIS)but recovering after.
Okuto Kotsubo
Voiced by: Yasuyuki Kase
The physical education teacher at Yōkai Academy and a kraken. Mizore once confessed to Kotsubo she liked him and he tried to take advantage of her, thus she froze him. When he returns, Kotsubo effortlessly attempts to pin the injuries of two students on Mizore to have her expelled and tries to kill her. With the help of Moka's blood infusion and the borrowed vampire power, Tsukune soundly defeats him and exposes the truth to the whole school.
Apsara|Apusara-sensei
Voiced by: Kyoko Hikami
Appearing exclusively in the anime, Apusara-sensei is the Indian cooking teacher of Yōkai Academy and an apsara. Her favorite dish is curry and is very passionate about the dish. Unfortunately, the curry takes a side-effect of turning anyone who eats it into a "curry zombie".

Student Police

A group of enforcers on school grounds charged with protecting the academy, these members use their status to their advantage. Anyone who opposes them is delivered swift punishment through methods of imprisonment and torture. They collect tribute and bribes from clubs; if they do not pay, they will be shut down. The corrupt Student Police have a long-standing rivalry with the Newspaper Club. According to Deshi (anime only), she, Kuyou, a bespectacled male who becomes a cerberus, and a tall, sadistic male who becomes a golem are referred to as the Student Police's Four Kings.
Kuyo (九曜?)
Voiced by: Ikeda Shuichi
Head of the Student Police Committee, Kuyou enforces the group's rules with a tyrannical and sadistic iron fist, going so far to state if someone goes against him, they are against the school. He is a yōko (kitsune), bearing four tails, many fire-based abilities and able to take on a hybrid form between his human and yōkai appearance. He believes yōkai and humans will always remain enemies, claiming friendship between the two only occurs in fairy tales. He and the other members of the Student Police decimated the previous Newspaper Club, leaving Gin the only remaining member.
Keito (蛍糸?)
Voiced by: Yukana Nogami
Ordered by Kuyou to keep an eye on the Newspaper Club (to make sure it wasn't doing anything the Student Police considered "illegal"), Keito is a spider-woman. Her animated incarnation places her in charge of a rival "super newspaper club" which would have replaced the current one. Keito also has 3 underlings, whose names are Tonko Oniyama, Shijimi Chouno, and Sumae Mizuno, who were made servants by her venom, all of whom were members of past clubs who the Student Police shut down; she also wanted to add Kurumu to her clique.
Deshiko Deshi
Voiced by: Saori Goto
A red-haired member of the Student Police; she appears as a generic member of Student Police in the manga, but her role is expanded in the anime. She is perhaps classified as a Jiang Shi. She becomes the first girl on campus to fall under Koumori's hypnosis, after he takes a human appearance. She may be an homage to Darkstalker's Lei-Lei, as Capcom is one of the sponsors of the anime.

ANTI-THESIS

A group mainly composed of hybrid yōkai, half-breed monsters that take no definitive, physical form of anything classified as a supernatural creature (such as vampires and werewolves), who wish for nothing more than to destroy the current school system. They have an extreme hatred of pure-blooded yōkai, who they claim look down on half-breeds, forcing them to become subservient to their pure-blooded masters. In the localized manga, they are referred to as "Monstrels".
Most members of ANTI-THESIS do not appear in the anime adaptation, as the anime focuses more on the romantic-comedy aspect of the series.
Kaneshiro Hokuto (金城 北都?)
The current president of the Yōkai Academy School Committee, Kaneshiro Hokuto is a charismatic individual and strikes a quick friendship with Tsukune, after he is admitted into the school committee. In actuality, Hokuto is the leader of ANTI-THESIS and a hybrid yōkai, determined to bring a swath of destruction and chaos upon the academy. However, he intends to break the barrier separating the human and yōkai worlds, flooding the supernatural creatures into city streets, igniting a bloody war between them.
Hokuto was originally human, and following years of physical abuse from his father, he accidentally enrolls himself into Yōkai Academy to escape from him. Unfortunately, all he found there was death and unlike Tsukune, he admits he never had anyone to protect him when he first arrived. His true form is repressed by a Holy Lock, similar to Tsukune's, and he attacks the board chairman and claims his rosary, entering the basement of Yōkai Academy, where the mechanism controlling the barrier is located. Tsukune and Moka manage to bring him down, but it takes a combined effort from Tsukune, his friends and Hokuto to restore the barrier, with the hybrid recalling Tsukune's promise to bring some form of order back into the student body. Hokuto reconciles with Tsukune, but summarily leaves after the school festival begins.
Yoshii Kiria (吉井 霧亜?)
The second-in-command of ANTI-THESIS, Yoshii Kiria is occasionally seen carrying and reading a small book. Calm and collected, he appears to be interested only in seeing how the events surrounding his superior, Kaneshiro Hokuto, will work out, and shares his view of releasing violence acted out on the students. Like Hokuto, Kiria is a hybrid, where his right arm becomes a scythe. It is revealed Kiria injected his blood to Hokuto, transforming him into a monster, so that he could "survive" the dangers of the academy. Ironically, he also appears grateful to Tsukune for changing Hokuto after his foiled attempt in destroying the barrier separating the human and yōkai worlds. He leaves Yōkai Academy with Hokuto after the school festival begins.
Kiria is currently affiliated with the Fairy Tale organization and is last seen airlifting Miyabe and Kalua Shuzen to safety.
Ueshiba Mizuki
A member of the School Committee, Ueshiba Mizuki approaches Tsukune after he is nominated to participate with the School Festival Committee. Unfortunately, he accidentally reveals himself to be the mole Tsukune is looking for in the Student Committee, alerting him to the presence of ANTI-THESIS. Ironically, his own abilities and true form reflect that of a mole, able to bury his victims underground.
Yakumaru Mako (薬丸 麻子?)
Disguised as a nurse in the school's hospital, Yakumaru Mako is first sent to assassinate Midou Kusabi after he fails to kill Tsukune. In order to sow dissesion among Tsukune and his friends, Mako controls and manipulates Moka's body after injecting her with a hypnotic fluid, forcing her to try to kill him. When this tactic fails, Mako injects her fluid into a multitude of bystanders, all forced to attack Tsukune.
She appears in the second season of the anime and designated as the actual school nurse, rather than in disguise as one.
Midou Kusabi (御堂 楔?)
One of the many enforcers within ANTI-THESIS, Midou Kusabi takes it upon himself to kill Tsukune, after witnessing his temporary vampiric powers, but faces super-vampire Moka, instead. Despite being thoroughly outclassed, he manages to disable her and deal a fatal blow to Tsukune, forcing Moka to inject too much of her blood into Tsukune, causing him to succumb and transform into a ghoul. Midou is brutally pummelled within an inch of his life by the berserk Tsukune, only to be dispatched later by Yakumaru Mako.
Komiya Saizou (小宮 砕蔵?)
Voiced by: Nobuyuki Hiyama
A typical class bully, Komiya Saizou attempts to rape Moka, but is knocked out by her super-vampire self, and disappears from Yōkai Academy for a while. The anime classifies him as an orc, while in the manga he was left unclassified. In the manga only, he reappears when Tsukune is elected class president. He joins ANTI-THESIS in the hopes of exacting revenge, but ends up defeated when Tsukune temporarily transforms into a vampire. For hastily rushing ahead and bringing other members of ANTI-THESIS without consent, Saizou is killed for insubordination.
Saizou's anime incarnation is portrayed with less brutality and is actually on amicable terms with Tsukune. When his parents come to the academy for a visit, his father is revealed to be a past object of affection Tsurara and Ageha had fought over, only now he has become bald and overweight.

Fairy Tale

A group of Youkai dedicated to throwing harmony into chaos and ruling over the human world. They appear in the second seralization of the manga series.
Miyabe Fujisaki
A member of Fairy Tale who holds Mizore hostage (and violates her) and hires Kalua, he is defeated by Tsukune in a single punch but rebounds to stop Kalua from fighting since she could have died if she continued to fight against Moka.
Kahlua Shuzen
Kahlua is the older sister of Moka and Kokoa. Carrying a child-like personality, Kokoa is deeply afraid of her and claims Kahlua is the best assassin in the Shuzen family, but ironically hates to hurt others, the reason why she cries whenever she kills. Her earrings are a limiter, akin to Moka's rosario; once taken off, Kalua has access to further transformations that allows her arms to develop razor sharp bat wings. According to Yukari, all vampires were able to take forms of other animals, but due to a vampire's vanity of beauty over form, this is considered a lost technique. She is also "Charmed" so she feels no pain and can ignore injuries easily, but in the end she could die once it wears off. Kahlua could have easily killed Moka in their battle, but tried to hold back because of the love for her sister, she is one of the most powerful encountered by Tsukune in the series, even surpassing the power of Kaneshiro Hokuto.
Kalua appears in the land of the yuki onna, hired by the Fairy Tale organization to assist Miyabe and kill everyone in the snow village and fought against the Newspaper club decimating them until inner Moka showed up. She removed her Rosario and fought her using her awakened form only stopping when Miyabe stepped in.
Similar to her sisters, Kahlua's name is perhaps a pun on the Kahlúa drink.
Kamiya "God" Kanade
Section Chief of the 7th Branch of Fairy Tale, he's a "Siren". He killed Marin's husband along with several others 4 years ago simply to clear his head after being transferred out to the area. His song will kill humans and blind Youkai, and can only be stopped by another Siren. By changing his songs tune he can open a water mirror transfer space and summon Mermen.
Subaki Rokuro
A member of Fairy Tale's 7th Branch who uses a recording of Kamiya's death song to kill people, and a scout for the group. He tried to put the snackbar out of business to get Sun to join them, he also kidnaps Ginei but was beaten afterward by him, who allowed himself to be caught.

Other

Bus Driver
Voiced by: Norihiro Inoue
A mysterious, unnamed bus driver who seems to know more than he reveals and constantly shows up to offer advice to Tsukune, he is usually portrayed smoking a cigar. He is the one who requests the board chairman help keep Tsukune's ghoulish nature at bay. It is unknown if the bus driver is human or a yōkai, but he does have an extensive knowledge in the supernatural, having identified Ishigami's Lilith Mirror as the cause of the uproar during the school festival. He may also be one of the three Dark Lords.
Nazo Koumori ( こうもり?)
Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu
Nazo Koumori is a bat acting as the narrator for the animated adapatation. Occasionally covering up various shots of fanservice (done in the television broadcast, while the DVD version is uncensored), Nazo also appears to state the exact duration of a fight. In the manga, various bats of similar design are used to give information on the various yōkai encountered at the academy.
In Rosario + Vampire Capu2, Nazo takes a more active part in the story as Kokoa's pet (much to the characters' surprise, since all believed he was simply a narrator), possessing the ability to transform itself into a variety of blunt weapons and in one instance, a rapier. Nazo can also take human form, specifically of a incubus, transforming into a teenager with the power of hypnosis through the uttering of a specific word.
Kyouko
Voiced by: Sachiko Kojima
Kyouko is Tsukune's 17 year-old cousin. Described as a tomboy with a stubborn streak, she is overprotective of him and makes her appearance on the second day of the school festival while searching for Yōkai Academy. Tsukune and his friends attempt to keep her from finding out about the academy's nature and its students, as well as prevent the authorities from discovering she is human. Kyouko manages to enter the yōkai world after she is asked to deliver a mysterious package, which contains the Lilith Mirror. Housing a fairy, it claims it grants the owner any wish they desire, but at the cost of their soul. Later, Kyouko is led to believe Tsukune is involved with the Yakuza.
In the anime, she is briefly mentioned in the first series, but makes a full appearance in Rosario + Vampire Capu2, when she accidentally obtains the Lilith Mirror from Kokoa.
Jyunya Inui
A second year student who appears in the special chapter of the manga, Jyunya Inui claims to be vampire and is particularly familiar with the rules of the species. He becomes interested in Moka and reminds her vampires cannot have relationships with other races. Tsukune is able to deduce his nature, stating he lacks the strength of a real vampire, after he takes a punch. In fact, he is an onimodoki, creatures who often pretend to be powerful monsters and intimidate other races, but are weak and frail.
Tsurara Shirayuki
Voiced by: Yuko Minaguchi
Tsurara is Mizore's mother; like her daughter, she is very shy and serene, including the tendency to hide behind corners and a lollipop in her mouth. She comes to the Academy's festival under the belief from her daughter's stories that Tsukune is Mizore's boyfriend. Tsurara is also an avid gun collector, with a wide variety of handguns and rifles stored in her home, who once dreamed of becoming a spy.
Exclusively in Rosario + Vampire Capu2, Tsurara and Ageha hold a long grudge against one another, being rivals for the affection of a student during their days as students at Yōkai Academy. She also runs a ski resort in the human world.
Ageha Kurono
Voiced by: Chieko Honda
Ageha is Kurumu's mother and appears during the start of the school festival under the belief that Tsukune is her daughter's fiancé, going so far as to allow him to "jump" her daughter anytime he wants. She also has a large chest like her daughter, Kurumu, and according to Tsukune, her breasts are softer than Kurumu's. Exclusively in Rosario + Vampire Capu2, Ageha and Tsurara hold a long grudge against one another, being rivals for the affection of a student during their days as students at Yōkai Academy.
Doppleganger
A thief who specializes in transforming into a person close to his targets then killing them. His minions are a Minotaur and a spider-man. Despite his ruthlessness, he is gynophobic.
Moka's Father
Voiced by: Katsuji Mori
Although briefly mentioned in the manga, Moka's father makes a full appearance only in Rosario + Vampire Capu2 and is the third Dark Lord. In this adaptation, he created Moka's rosario and the one used for the school barrier. His contempt for humans knows no bounds and according to Koumori, his powers exceed that of a standard S-class yōkai, able to throw anyone with just a wave of his hand.

H2O: Footprints in the Sand

Anime Review
H2O: Footprints in the Sand
Themes: harem

Plot Summary:

Takuma Hirose, a blind young male high school student, though the cause for his blindness is undetermined. After his mother died an unexpected death, it left a deep emotional scar on him, which caused him to become very lonely and reserved. Due to this, Takuma move from the city out into a rural area and Takuma is enrolled into a new high school. At his new school, he meets several new girls, though three of whom he gets to know the most out of anyone else. They are, the firm and obstinate Hayami Kohinata, the kind and obliging Hinata Kagura, and the cheerful and mysterious Otoha. As Takuma interacts with these girls, his medical condition gradually begins to heal.

Characters

Takuma Hirose (弘瀬 琢磨 Hirose Takuma?)
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu (anime)
Takuma is the main protagonist of the story. He has a moderately quiet personality partly because he suffers from blindness and for his condition, he carries around a white cane he named "Tomodachi sa" (友田千紗?), a pun on the word tomodachi (友達?, "friend"). His mother committed suicide which left a deep emotional scar on Takuma. In order to rectify this, he moves to the countryside to live with his uncle. Takuma is naturally friendly and likes to befriend everyone he meets in his new town. There is a rift between the rich and the poor, with Takuma being on the former end of the divide.
Hayami Kohinata (小日向 はやみ Kohinata Hayami?)
Voiced by: Harumi Sakurai
Hayami is a girl in Takuma's class who sits next to him. She has an unsociable personality and a sharp attitude towards others, not wanting to become friends. Due to this, she is often bullied and is referred to by her schoolmates as the "cockroach" (ゴキブリ gokiburi?), but for some reason she does not fight back when being bullied. She has an intense fear of spiders. She is poor and lives alone. Even though she owns a bathing suit, she will not participate in swimming classes because she is poor at it. Hayami's family was rich once because her parents are doctors. Since they charged high prices in medical examinations and were unwilling to take any patients in without the fees, the village people revolted against them, burned their house and kicked them out of the village with the exception of Hayami.
Hinata Kagura (神楽 ひなた Kagura Hinata?)
Voiced by: Ryōko Tanaka
Hinata is the granddaughter of the village headman, and is one of the rich members of town. She is in Takuma's class and is the class representative for her class. She has a kind of obliging personality, and is popular in her school. She has the tendency to fall down and by clumsy, and one time she even fell down a flight of stairs at school, though luckily Takuma was there to break her fall. She refers to Takuma as "Hirose-sama", a very polite form of expression. Her real name is actually Hotaru Kagura (神楽 ほたる Kagura Hotaru?), the younger sister to Hinata — known as Otoha by Takuma. When Hinata drowned, her grandfather forced Hotaru to become Hinata, and made the village people think that it was Hotaru that drowned.
Otoha (音羽?)
Voiced by: Mia Naruse
Otoha appears to be a normal girl, but she is in fact a spirit, and only Takuma can hear or see her. She is always cheerful, and will appear out of no where, clinging suddenly to Takuma. She refers to herself with the masculine pronoun boku (?), meaning "I". She refers to Takuma as the "Promised Person" (約束の人 Yakusoku no Hito?). It is revealed that Otoha is the real Hinata Kagura who fell into a river and drowned. She took the name Otoha from Hotaru's picture book that she drew herself. Otoha shows Takuma a strange world before disappearing, in this world she is his fiancé. Just before she disappears, she confesses her love for him but says that she is not the one he belongs with.
Yui Tabata (田端 ゆい Tabata Yui?)
Voiced by: Mio Yasuda
Yui is a girl in Takuma's class. She has a self-aggrandizing personality and always has two male henchmen tagging along. She often calls Hayami a "cockroach" and along with her henchmen will bully Hayami relentlessly, and while she gets along with Takuma, she likes to tease Hinata. She is very rich and often uses formal speech so as to distinguish herself from the "commoners". She was given a scenario in H2O's sequel Root After and Another. Yui's grandfather died because Hayami's parents would not give him a medical examination without the fees since they were poor back then. This led to the village's revolt against the Kohinata family, and Yui's hatred for Hayami. However, she does show concern for Hayami and saves her in episode eleven of the anime from being killed by one of her henchmen.
Hamaji Yakumo (八雲 はまじ Yakumo Hamaji?)
Voiced by: Yui Sakakibara
Hamaji is one of Takuma's classmates. Despite his feminine appearance and voice, he is in fact a boy who crossdresses like a girl. He has an optimistic personality, and likes to play innocent when he plays bad jokes on others. He seems to favor Takuma. He has a little sister named Yukiji (雪路?), and his family owns a convenience store. In the epilogue of the story, he has a child with Maki, who was his best friend in the series. Maki is seen holding the child at the Kagura household, who could have been mistaken to be Takuma's child due to the hairstyle, but the hair color belongs to Hamaji, therefore, making him the father.
Rin Misakura (御桜 稟 Misakura Rin?)
Voiced by: Rui Takagi
Rin, like Takuma, is an exchange student from the city. She has a kind and gentle personality, and is a hard worker, but is rather clumsy. Rin is the main heroine in Makura's third game Sakura no Uta.

Opening Theme:
"Katayoku no Icarus (片翼のイカロス)" by Yui Sakakibara
Ending Theme:
"Kazahane (カザハネ)" by Haruka Shimotsuki
#2: "FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND" by monet (ep 12)

Visual novel

An example of what average conversation looks like in H2O. Here, Takuma is talking with Otoha.

Gameplay

The gameplay requires almost no interaction from the player as nearly the entire duration of the game is spent on simply reading the text that will appear on the screen; this text represents either dialogue between the various characters, or the inner thoughts of the protagonist. There is a single choice that the player gets to make which determines which girl the protagonist chooses. There are three main plot lines that the player will have the chance to experience, one for each of the heroines in the story. In order to view the three plot lines to their entirety, the player will have to replay the game multiple times and choose a different choice at the single decision point in order to further the plot in an alternate direction. In contrast to visual novel adventure games where the text appears near the bottom of the screen leaving the rest of the window open for viewing the game's visual content, the text in H2O appears over the entire screen in a shaded, but otherwise transparent box. However, there is an option to hide the text in order to see the background without obstruction.

A comparison between the Blindness Mode (left) and Normal Mode (right).
The game can be played in two modes, a Blindness Effect Mode or a Normal Effect Mode. The former takes into account that the protagonist is blind, and while he can imagine what the people he talks with look like, he cannot discern the color of the world around him, which renders the artwork in an almost black and white tone, additionally giving it a stylish and dream-like appearance. As gameplay progresses and the protagonist's condition gradually heals, this convention eventually fades away as the protagonist can now see with his own eyes the world around him. The Normal Effect Mode does not use the effect from the Blindness Effect Mode and therefore the visuals are otherwise unchanged from their originally colored state. The two modes can be interchanged at any moment throughout the gameplay.
There are three parts in the gameplay. The first part, entitled the "Past Chapter" (過去編 Kako Hen?) serves to set up the story and for the protagonist to meet and get to know the characters, especially the three heroines. Following the first part, there is a time where the protagonist has to leave for several years only to come back in the so-called "Reunion Chapter" (再会編 Saikai Hen?) and meet the girls he knew before who have changed somewhat. After the player chooses one of the girls, the third part in the story called the "After Game" (アトゲー Ato Gee?) concludes the game, which is also where the majority of the erotic content is viewable. The story consists primarily of the first two parts which are a flashback from the protagonist's point of view. Within this flashback are around fifty smaller flashbacks from the past of the protagonist and the girls'. While the game is intended to be a serious drama, the gameplay is peppered with unrelated bouts of humor which come with computer graphic artwork of the characters in a humorous situation depicted in a super deformed style. The pacing of the game is rather slow and has the tendency of reusing the exact same flashback scenes multiple times. Additionally, certain flashbacks are viewable no matter which girls' scenario is pursued and these cannot be skipped.
There is an additional "emergency" button that can be activated if the player does not want other people to know they are playing an adult game. This option shows a random piece of artwork unrelated to the game's content out of around one-hundred images. These images are rather bizarre, one such image containing a black and white photograph of a toy horse head with red "blood" splattered around the edge of the image.

BEST FORM OF MAHOU EVER

" REALITY MARBLE "

A Reality Marble (固有結界 koyuu kekkai, innate bounded field) is the common sense of the spirit world that the demons possess, but now, it is possible to achieve one as an innate bounded field.
As a sub-category of Marble Phantasm, it is possible to reshape reality into the vision of the bearer through a bounded field. It is a magecraft that comes close to being real magic, and is a category that was banned by the Association of Magecraft.
Unlike Marble Phantasm, it isn't possible to make any transformation you want: its only purpose is to do the one thing that defines the practitioner. On the other hand, that thing can be something unnatural.
The Reality Marble allows the creation of a world that obeys a set pattern of rules. However, there are limitations in how it is a way to create a spiritual world. In principle, it is something that only belongs to demons and spirits, but it is possible for an individual with high magic abilities to realize one with time. The World will naturally try to crush such a bounded field if it isn't made by a spiritual entity. Also, in the end, only a limited number of people are capable of realizing a Reality Marble.

    NOBLE PHANTASM

    NOBLE PHANTASM

Noble Phantasm (宝具 hougu, lit. precious tool) is a weapon or an ability owned by a heroic spirit.
"Noble Phantasm" is the official English name, as given by the katakana reading of its kanji in its encyclopedia entry.
In the legend of a hero, there is not only the man that the hero was, but the anecdotes about him, his arms and weapons; all of this symbolizes his existence. These symbols are the ultimate mysteries that the Servant, the embodiment of the heroic spirit, carries as a trump card. Such is the deadly weapon called "Noble Phantasms". Noble Phantasms are the crystallization of the historical facts and anecdotes that made the heroic spirit famous, but that does not necessarily have to be an offensive weapon; it can be a shield, a ring, a crown, but also a specific ability or a unique method of combat.
    Sources: Fate/Zero, act 2 chapter 1 and act 2 chapter 4, and Fate/Side Material encyclopedia entry (p.71-72).
Currently, Fragarach is the only known weapon of Noble Phantasm rank still being owned by a living human (the Fraga family). This would imply that a Noble Phantasm isn't necessarily a weapon only owned by a heroic spirit, but could be a powerful Mystic Code that became legendary. The real scabbard of King Arthur, recovered by the von Einzbern family and given to Kiritsugu to summon Saber, is still a Noble Phantasm. As usual in Nasuverse, the older a mystery gets, the more powerful it becomes.
